Ijebu Igbo stands still for Kashamu, as sympathisers throng residence

The whole of Ijebu Igbo in Ogun State stood still on Sunday as thousands of mourners thronged the residence of late Senator Buruji Kashamu.

Kashamu who died on Saturday of coronavirus complications at a Lagos private hospital, First Cardiology  Consultants, had since been committed to mother earth in his residence at noon, according to Islamic rites.

His corpse was said to have arrived Ijebu Igbo on Saturday night.

Mourners and sympathisers had started to throng his residence very early in the day, extolling the departed’s philanthropic and kind-hearted gestures to the them,  the entire community, and the state.

People climbed adjoining decks of buildings around the residence, all in a bid to pay their last respect.

The mourners cut across party and religious lines.

Among early callers were the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and Dr Reuben Abati.

The governor earlier signed the condolence register at the deceased’s residence.

Kashamu represented Ogun East senatorial district at the 8th National Assembly between 2015 and 2019.
