Robbers dispossess woman of over N.5m, arrested in Ogun


Three suspected highway robbers who dispossessed a woman, Oluwakemi Oyegade of N545,000 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State police command.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this on Sunday.
He said the incident happened on Friday July 17, while the victim was travelling in a Mazda bus with the driver of the bus, Zacheaus  Olaniyi.
He said the suspects, Uzefa Idris, Adamu Yakubu and Ayuba Buhari, had emerged from the bush at Alapako axis of the expressway, blocked the highway, wielding machetes and other weapons during which they stopped the bus and started robbing the motorists.

Unknown to the suspects, Oyeyemi said a distress call had been made to the Divisional Police Officer, Owode-Egba division, Mathew Ediae, who quickly mobilised his men to the scene.
He said, “The DPO Owode Egba, Mathew Ediae,  a superintendent of Police, quickly led his anti- robbery team to the scene.”
But he added that on sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels but were chased into the bush where three among them were apprehended.
He said, “The two victims of their operation Oluwakemi Oyegade (f) who was dispossessed of N545,000 (Five hundred and forty-five thousand) and one itel phone, as well as the driver,Zacheaus Olaniyi, were rescued to the station.
“The two victims narrated that the hoodlums jumped on the road from the bush and forcefully stopped the vehicle consequent upon which they started beating them with machete before dispossessing them of their valuables.”
Other things recovered from the suspects include the sum of N99,700 (Ninety nine thousand, seven hundred naira) and one itel phone.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Special Anti-robbery Squad for further investigation and prosecution.
