No fewer than two persons, including a child, have died while nine others were injured in an early morning building collapse on Freeman Street, Lagos Island.
Sources said that the three-storey building collapsed in the early hours of Saturday when the occupants were still asleep.
The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the tragic incident through a statement.
According to him, the remains of the dead victims “have been conveyed to the mortuary, while the nine injured are being administered pre-hospital care by the agency.”
“Rescue operations are still ongoing,” he added.
Meanwhile, officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Ministry of Physical Planning, Nigeria Police among other emergency workers are at the scene of the incident.
